CS373 Fall 2020: Week 9

What Did I Do This Week?

This week I was finally back to a regular schedule, after my group finished the Phase II portion of the project. It was difficult, and took me well over 30 hours on the backend, but ultimately I was very happy with how it ended up. I’m definitely looking forward to more relaxed weeks going forward after my exams.

What Is In My Way?

Right now, nothing really. Later tonight I have my first meeting regarding Phase III of the project, and hopefully nothing there will be too tasking right off the bat.

What Will I Do Next Week?

Next week will be primarily focusing on the Phase III project, as well as a project for my Network Security class. Other than that, it is just another normal week of class, thankfully.

If you read it, what did you think of Ethical CS?

Unfortunately I haven’t started it yet, I tend to be a bit of a procrastinator.

What was your experience of functions, lambdas, and decorators?

Very helpful. Prior to this class, I had obviously used functions extensively, but I had also used lambdas quite extensively. They were a challenge when I was first introduced to them, but by now, they are a very useful tool for me to use. I hadn’t ever really used decorators, but they are also very useful. Challenging similarly to how lambdas were at first, but getting the hand of it.

What Made Me Happy This Week?

This week, my parents visited me here in Austin, socially distanced of course, and they even brought my dog. It was really nice to see all three of them, since I haven’t seen them since August.

A little late, but VSCode’s Live Share extension. Without it, I don’t know how Phase II would have ever been completed, since we obviously don’t have the ability to work in person in traditional pair programming.
